Peptide Therapy

Muscle Recovery & Performance Support

What Are Peptides?

Peptides are short chains of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. Some peptides occur naturally in the body, while certain peptide-based medications are manufactured for specific medical uses. [forbes.com]

In the wellness and performance space, you may hear peptides promoted for muscle recovery, injury healing, body composition, or performance. It is important to understand that the quality of evidence varies significantly depending on the specific peptide.

Can Peptide Therapy Improve Muscle Recovery?

Some peptides, including BPC-157, are marketed as recovery treatments for muscles, tendons, and ligaments. However, there is currently a lack of robust human clinical evidence establishing the safety and effectiveness of several peptides promoted for these purposes. [forbes.com]

For that reason, patients should view peptide therapy as something that requires a careful medical discussion rather than as a guaranteed way to heal faster.

What About Improved Performance?

Feeling stronger, recovering faster, and performing better are common goals, but peptide therapy should not be presented as a guaranteed performance enhancer.

A medical evaluation can help determine whether factors such as recovery habits, nutrition, sleep, underlying medical conditions, medications, or hormonal health may be affecting how you feel and perform.

Potential Goals of a Treatment Plan

Depending on the patient's evaluation and the specific therapy being considered, a wellness plan may focus on:

Supporting healthy recovery

Addressing factors interfering with exercise or recovery

Improving overall wellness and physical function

Supporting an appropriate exercise and nutrition program

Identifying underlying hormonal or medical concerns

Is Peptide Therapy Right for Me?

Not every peptide is appropriate for every patient.

Before considering treatment, discuss the specific peptide with your healthcare provider, including:

Why it is being recommended

Whether it is FDA-approved for the proposed use

What human clinical evidence supports it

Known and uncertain risks

Possible medication interactions or contraindications

Whether established treatment alternatives are available

Recovery Starts With the Whole You

At Lighthouse Wellness Clinic, the goal should be to understand what's affecting your health and performance and develop an individualized plan based on your needs.

Recover thoughtfully. Build strength. Perform at your best.

What is IV and Wellness Therapy?

IV therapy delivers fluids and selected nutrients directly into your bloodstream through a small IV. Depending on your medical history, symptoms, and individual needs, your clinician may recommend a personalized treatment plan.

Vitamins and minerals

Certain vitamins and minerals are essential for normal body functions. When clinically appropriate, an IV may contain specific nutrients selected by your healthcare provider. IV treatment is not automatically better than getting nutrients through food or oral supplements, so we determine whether IV administration is appropriate for you.

Peptide therapy

Peptides are short chains of amino acids that can act as signaling molecules in the body. Some peptide-based medications have established medical uses, while other peptides promoted for "wellness," recovery, anti-aging, or similar purposes have limited evidence or are not FDA-approved for those uses. Treatment should therefore be discussed individually with a qualified clinician. Current regulatory status is particularly important because the FDA continues to evaluate and issue guidance concerning compounded peptide products. [fda.gov], [fda.gov]

NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide)

NAD+ is a naturally occurring coenzyme involved in cellular energy metabolism and processes related to DNA repair. Human clinical evidence for increasing NAD+ as a therapeutic strategy remains limited, so many wellness and anti-aging claims have not been firmly established. Clinical Evidence for Targeting NAD Therapeutically [pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Potential areas of interest include:

Supporting normal cellular energy metabolism

Supporting cellular repair processes

Being investigated for metabolic and age-related health applications

A systematic review found the field promising but concluded that additional clinical trials are needed to establish benefits and determine the best way to increase NAD+. [pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

Glutathione

Glutathione is an antioxidant naturally produced by the body. It helps protect cells from oxidative stress and participates in normal cellular defense processes.

For patient-facing materials, I would describe IV glutathione as antioxidant support rather than promising benefits such as "detoxification," anti-aging, immune boosting, or disease prevention unless those claims are supported for the specific treatment and indication.

Sermorelin

Sermorelin is a peptide that stimulates the pituitary gland to release growth hormone rather than supplying growth hormone directly. NAD+ and Sermorelin Together [agelessrx.com]

It is sometimes offered in longevity/wellness settings with goals related to:

Growth-hormone signaling

Recovery

Body composition

Sleep and energy

However, longevity uses described by wellness providers are not FDA-approved, and published research on combining Sermorelin with NAD+ is limited. [agelessrx.com]

Patient-friendly wording for Lighthouse Wellness Clinic

Supporting wellness from the cellular level

NAD+, glutathione, and peptide therapies each work differently in the body. NAD+ plays an important role in cellular energy metabolism, while glutathione is one of the body's naturally occurring antioxidants. Sermorelin is a peptide that stimulates the body's own release of growth hormone.

Because every patient is different, these therapies are considered only after an individualized medical evaluation. Your provider will discuss your health history, goals, potential benefits, limitations, risks, and appropriate treatment options before recommending therapy.

Hormone therapy

Hormones are chemical messengers involved in many functions throughout the body. Hormone therapy is different from simply adding vitamins to a wellness IV. It requires an appropriate medical evaluation, consideration of symptoms and relevant testing, and a discussion of the potential benefits, risks, and alternatives before treatment.

Is it right for me?

Your care should begin with a medical assessment rather than a one-size-fits-all IV "cocktail." Your provider can review your health history, medications, symptoms, goals, and relevant laboratory results to determine whether vitamin/mineral therapy, peptide therapy, hormone treatment, another treatment, or no treatment is appropriate.

If a compounded medication is being considered, it is especially important to understand that compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, meaning the FDA does not review their safety, effectiveness, or quality before they are marketed. The FDA notes that compounded medications can fill an important medical need for some patients, but poor-quality or contaminated compounded products can cause serious harm. [fda.gov]

Our goal is personalized, medically guided care based on your individual health needs, with clear conversations about potential benefits, limitations, alternatives, and risks.
